Bethany

I can tell you that in my house my wife most defiantly gets haircuts as often as she wants, and would only lough at me if I were to suggest that she needed to watch my feet, (who does that anyway?). She makes more money then I do at the moment and will probably always do so, and I have cook and change more diapers in the time we have been married. don't get me wrong, she is very caring of me and our kids and loves us more then I can say but she is defiantly no push over.

as far as remarried goes, she knows that if I die, I don't want her to stay a lonely or sexless female (although I don't like to think about it but then again who likes to think of their death and their wife with another men). but we have talk about it, she will defiantly remarried if she found someone, same with me.

anyway, this is my experience, but I agree with Thaddeus, give thus missionaries a change, they be able to explain the doctrine and answer more questions.

Good news, Bethany! Those things you've been told are incorrect! Give those elders a listen and ask for some clarification.

Um what us up with all the odd names on here? I was run into by some mormon guys walking around so i decided to ask them a million and 1 questions one after another each one having nothing to do with the last, I thought it was funny considering what I have heard. I also asked why would I subject my self to lowering my status as a human being? based on what I have heard (ex. woman cant cut there hair because it is supposed to be used to wash there husbands feet, woman are given little names so that "if" there husband wants them after death than she will get that "luxury" but if not than she is left to what? not live and not die? lovely, each man gets a planet? (oh lord) big headed if you ask me but yeah yeah there taught that so i guess i cant blame them (but hey can i come over to mars for a bit? f***tard), men can remarry as many times as they would like but a woman cannot? live the rest of my life if i divorce as a lonely sexless female? haha again why would i subject my self to that?) also the boys wouldnt give me there names? asked me to call them elder something so i said why would i give you my name do they feel entitled to it? as you guys can tell I have heard nothing but bad things about mormon religion. Do i think all woman want out of it? no in fact i think some enjoy it and feel it is a good fit for them whether they are raised that way or not. I would like to know if what i have been told and read is correct because if that (what i would call) bulls*** is true than ill pass but if not I can say i am interested in learning what it is about.

Mormonism isn't a true Bible following religion. It has "made up/invented" parts and books. It has nothing to do with Christianity.

I hope this gets to RTC

I read the link you posted, it makes perfect since if you do not know that God is all just, all knowing and in control of his church.

If in the other hand you know that he is in control then all the arguments don't make since, man are in the same position as their counter parts.

Just for one second assume that God is directing the church, that the decision making is not maid by a man or a group of man, that man in the church lisen and obey the holy spirit. then you see that the brothers are in the same position as the sisters.

If, even after changing your thoughts to include God as the one in charge and in control, you still feel concern for the oppress state of the sisters because their gender difference then you should feel equally concern with the oppress state of man because we exist incapable of having children.

There is no secondary role in our believe system. if you think there is then you think that there is a primary role, and that goes to show that you are the one oppressing whoever is in the so call secondary role.

If in the other hand I change my views to yours I then have to say that If I or anyone chose to stay home or not have a leadership position that person will be in a secondary role, true by their own doing but still a secondary, less then role. I would be saying that they chose a less then position. I would be dooming 1/2 of the population (because someone has to do the job) to a less then role, whether they like it or not.

If we believe that there is a an all knowing God, then we believe that both roles are equal, if we believe that there is not a God that is fool of mercy and fool of grace then we have to believe that life has cheated us out of something because there are roles that are more inportant then others (giving birth, been stronger, squatting down to go to the bedroom vs standing up, etc)

I hope you can look pass my spelling and look at the thoughts. I hope to hear back from you or anyone else to see if my logic is correct.

RTC, what is your purpose here? You know as well as I do that your example above isn't referring to the oppression of women or blacks.

If you were on the other side of this debate I have full confidence in your ability to refute every one of your own assertions. You are an excellent debater, and you have proven it.

Is it out of concern for us? If it were, I think a little more love would have shown through in your words.

You are welcome to post comments here, but I'd just like to know what your aim is.

Thaddeus, try this one:

Blacks are endowed with the capacity to love, nurture, protect, feel, serve, obey, beautify, and charm. It is in our mitochondria from all the way back to Eve. Whites are ordained and set apart to hold the priesthood. This calling and ordination gives them the power to serve, protect, lift, discern, organize (sometimes), preach, prophesy, bless and heal.

or this one:

Heavenly Father has designed the work of blacks and whites to complement each other and to build on each other. It is as though blacks are in charge of making sure that each building block is strong, whole and dependable, and the whites are in charge of overseeing the organization of those blocks into a church and a kingdom. Neither one would get very far without the other, and when whites and blacks work together to build the kingdom in such a way, they succeed.

Selectively quoting your way out of this won't work.

Hmmm. I tried that replace-'women'-with-'blacks' -and-'men' -with-whites' thing and I had two thoughts:

1) It doesn't make a lot of sense that way:

"Whites are to preside over their families in love and righteousness...Blacks are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children."

"Blacks are endowed with the capacity to love, nurture, protect, feel, etc."

2) It in no way implies that slavery is acceptable.

"Both callings make us humble. Both callings cause us to be selfless."

"Blacks are just as important as whites...we must be ready to function...without having to look up because of any feeling of inferiority, or look down because of any feeling of superiority..."

What I mean by "you've drunk the kool-aid" is that you've accepted and incorporated into your identity the ideology that keeps women in Mormonism oppressed. I didn't say Mormonism is a cult - I don't think it is anymore. Besides, feigning offense and then running away is really just avoiding the argument.

It seems like you've drunk the Kool-Aid... You really believe that not being able to participate as fully in a religion translates into being "just as important"? You may want to check a recent post on this here:
http://latterdaymainstreet.com/?p=275
